Role: Employment Support Worker - Charity Shop

Salary: £12.25 per hour

Hours: 14 hours per week

Responsible to: Catering manager and Head of Work programme

PURPOSE: To provide the support and skills development necessary to ensure those individuals with learning disabilities on work placement opportunities, succeed in achieving their aim of working more independently and gaining confidence in the workplace.

  1. To provide direct support for people on work placement at our Tea Room in Blewbury, helping people to learn skills, developing independence and confidence in the workplace.
  2. To work as a part of the Tea room team to provide excellent customer service and to contribute to the smooth running of the business - including serving customers, clearing tables, keeping the tearoom clean and tidy, making drinks and preparing food.
  3. To have, or to develop an understanding of the methods and communication strategies appropriate to people with learning disabilities.
  4. To monitor and record development and progress of the individual employee or work placement being supported including setting targets and completing regular reviews with the people we support.
  5. To provide transport and travel training to placements where required, encouraging independent travel whenever possible.
  6. To work in a professional manner in line with the work practices of Style Acre and to ensure the appropriate standard of work practice is adopted by the employee or work placement being supported.
  7. To take ownership of your own personal development, to be supervised by your line manager on a monthly basis and to commit to attending training and development opportunities identified for your role.
  8. To carry out all other duties associated within the role of Employment Supporter, as directed by the Shop/Tearoom Manager and Head of Work Programme including providing holiday cover for other social enterprise staff.

Training and Development: Style Acre is committed to providing the training, development and support necessary to ensure all employees understand and achieve the responsibilities of their role and fulfil their personal and professional potential. Mandatory and statutory training is inclusive of this programme. In addition, dependent on the specific service needs and requirements, specialised training will be scheduled into an employee’s individual development programme. Examples of where additional specific training would be applicable would be in services supporting people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, complex health needs, autism or mental health needs in addition to their learning disability.
